Technology is progressing day by day with new inventions and new technology. We can see that people use more smartphones, tablets, and laptops than desktops nowadays, and we also notice that many startups emerge every year, but it was not always like this.
For example, 20 years ago, if someone asked for a personal computer, they would have been given a large and heavy desktop compared to today’s laptop. With the advancement of technology, almost everything is now with its better version and features.
Before we had only simple cameras and now you can see that there are hidden cameras, spy cameras and even sunglasses with camera, all these things are very beneficial.
The first computers that took up entire rooms (like shown on the right of the picture) were costly (an average house price at that time would have bought you eight of those). And now we can buy our personal computer or laptop, which is the size of a few books, for under $500.
A person would not have imagined that 20 years later, they would be able to carry their personal computer in their pocket or purse with them everywhere they go.
Are you interested in the current tech world? Do you want to find out what is happening and what news is making headlines around the world? If so, then this article is for you. This technology-themed list will introduce you to six people who have been influential in some way or another.
The technology world requires a lot of dedication, hard work, and creativity. The ability to stay ahead of the game is not easy for everybody involved in it.
Although people are starting to use this technology more often than ever before, some individuals have paved the way for things. These influential people have given their all to try and improve the standards around them so they could obtain a more manageable life – or maybe just something new to toy with.
Here are six highly influential people who have helped shape what we know today as being part of the modern technology world:
10). Travis Kalanick
The founder and CEO of Uber Technologies Inc, Kalanick, is one of the most influential people on this list due to his business achievements.
A relatively new company, Uber is now worth an estimated $17 billion – which was only made possible through hard work and endless hours spent creating the product we know and love today.
Currently operating in around 500 cities worldwide, it’s no surprise why everyone loves the app so much – it gets you from A to B without spending a ridiculous amount of money on a taxi or having to get yourself there on time.
9). Michael Dell
Michael Dell was just nineteen years old when he started up PC&S with $1000 worth of savings. His company became the largest supplier of PCs, and he was named “Entrepreneur Of The Decade.”

8). Linus Torvalds
Linus Torvalds is known as the creator of Linux, an operating system that competes with Microsoft’s Windows. There are now more computers using Linux than both Windows and Mac combined, which shows us how popular it has become.
The Open Source Movement was developed from this idea of collaboration via the Internet, and it is now one of the most important aspects of technology today.
7). Andrew Grove
Andrew Grove’s name should be well known to those involved with technology during the past decade as he led Intel from 2012 to 2005 while facing tough competition from AMD.
As CEO at Intel, his primary focus was on efficiency, which has helped them become more competitive. In 1987 he wrote a book – High Output Management – which helped to increase his success as a leader.
6). Jeff Bezos
Jeff Bezos is the founder of Amazon – an online retailer that started as an internet bookstore where you could easily search for any book and purchase it with the click of a mouse.
Because over time, people got more accustomed to making purchases online (rather than going out shopping), Bezos introduced new services such as music, movies, and even consumer electronics. Over time these items became available through his site too.
And now we can buy virtually anything we want or need from groceries to sports equipment on this website which was not possible 20 years ago! This kind of innovation makes him an extremely influential person in the technology world, considering how he changed our lives and daily routines.
5). Larry Page and Sergey Brin
these two made Google what it is today. They recognized the power of the Internet to disseminate information. They created a search engine that was easy to use and allowed users to quickly transfer large amounts of data.
Larry Page started working on BackRub, which led him to develop PageRank, an algorithm for ranking web pages linked to other sites. It was originally called BackRub since it checked backlinks as one way to assess importance.
Sergey Brin’s first work after getting his Ph.D. at Stanford University was related to this project too. They worked together on the initial design and implementation of the Search Engine. At the same time, Larry later served as president and CEO until 2001, when they both became presidents of Alphabet Inc (Google’s parent company).
4). Mark Zuckerberg
Mark Zuckerberg – the founder of Facebook, is number two. Initially, he launched Thefacebook in 2004 at Harvard University by inviting students via email to join it.
A few months later, after its launch, more than half of Harvard undergraduates had become members. It spread rapidly across US universities and was soon available for high school students, staff, and alumni beyond college campuses.
Mark Zuckerberg’s goal was to create a website where people could connect and make everyone on planet Earth connected on this social network platform – allowing anyone who had internet access all over the world.
It might be useless for some people but a fantastic invention for many others. That’s why his contribution seems so valuable, as he made it possible for anyone to reach out to their family and friends anytime, no matter where they are.

3). Steve Jobs
This man worked alongside Bill Gates to create the software required for the Apple II after Wozniak had already designed it.
While Steve Jobs was the founder and CEO of Apple, he became a celebrity and made his products known. He didn’t just plan and invent these amazing devices but also marketed them in such a way that everyone wanted one. These two reasons alone make him a significant person to have been involved with technology.
He is famous for saying: “Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.” In other words, he believed innovation is what drives businesses forward by creating new ways of doing things or simply by making old ones better.
His company was at the forefront of many innovative technologies, including MP3 players (iPod), portable media players (iPod), tablet computers (iPad), smartphones, voice recognition software, etc.
2). Bill Gates
Bill Gates is a computer programmer and an American business magnate, philanthropist, investor, and author. He co-founded Microsoft in 1975 with Paul Allen.
His influence on the technology world is enormous because he contributed to developing many innovative tools that we use today. Even if we don’t know, it’s Bill Gates who has made these things possible.
Bill started programming at age 13 when he wrote his first computer program for a live TV quiz show called “Potential Genius.” Later he convinced his father to own a computer terminal and was responsible for programming computers while attending high school.
His favorite subjects were math and science, so naturally, he became fascinated with the idea of making computers work faster and smarter than they did before.
1). Steve Wozniak
With Steve Jobs, Wozniak co-founded Apple Computer in 1976 and created the company’s first product – a computer he called Apple I.
In addition to being a visionary of today’s technology world as we know it, he also has been inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame for his work with co-inventing the personal computer.
For those not familiar with his story: A year after graduating from high school, Wozniak began attending the University of California, Berkeley, and soon became interested in mathematics and electronics. He redesigned an inexpensive calculator and then sold it to one of the campus stores.
For this project, Woz used what was later called microprocessor chips – that was back when such processors were not even considered possible.
Wrapping Up!
People who are successful in technology gather knowledge about the industry and tools to use, and then they apply it.
Applying knowledge is the hard part. The more you research the topic, the easier it becomes to apply what you learn to solve your problem or challenge.
To be successful with technology requires practice. You need to experiment with ideas and put what you know into action. When something doesn’t work out as planned, take note of why so that next time, you can try something different
And that’s it! So now you know a little more about important people in the technology world.
Many other impressive and influential people could have been included on this list, but these six were chosen as they are generally seen as some of the most significant by the public. That doesn’t mean there aren’t others, though – and maybe one day we will see them featured here too!
No matter what, I hope you have enjoyed learning about the influential people behind the modern technology industry.
