In history, many events have brought positive and lasting changes through the revolutions. The manifesto of new leaders or new influential figures and their ideologies and teachings have undoubtedly shaped today’s world where we exist today. However, in some instances few events in history have altered the entire course of history, leaving an indelible mark on the world. Today’s world wouldn’t be in the same shape if these events didn’t happen. Such moments in history are highlighted as “watershed” moments. These moments have altered the whole world. If these events didn’t take place, things wouldn’t be the same as they are today. These events are highlighted as the most pivotal moments in the history.

10) October Revolution:

In 1917, when Russia was on the brink of collapse due to financial bankruptcy and social economic collapse during the government of Alexander Kerensky. He was part or the member of the Bolshevik party. The Bolsheviks promised to bring an end to Russia’s involvement in World War I and establish a socialist government. It was the month of October, when Bolsheviks saw an opportunity to control the collapse, seizing power and addressing the crisis. 

As a result, the new revolution brought about the leadership of the soviet leader and established the world’s first socialist soviet state.

In the 18th century, this phenomenal groundbreaking machine was built by James Watt. He curated this machine in a way so that fuel consumption could be controlled and stopped. For the first time in history, this invention empowered industries to reduce costs, increasing the production capacity and mechanisation of the manufacturing process. This revolution transformed the whole locomotive or transportation industry, boosting the economy and global trading. 8) Assassination of Archduke Ferdinand Francis:

The assassination of Archduke Ferdinand Francis is a major event in history. This key event was the leading conflict and the dispute causing World War I. The Gavrillo Princip from Sarajevo is said to be the ultimatum for the assassination of Archduke. As the Austrian republic found this, it was an opportunity for Austria to crush Serbia’s growing power. The chaos led to the declaration of war i-e the World War I in 1914. In an attempt, Russia supported Serbia while Germany supported Austria-Hungary. A complex group of alliances was formed leading to the downfall and eventually destruction of many empires. 

 

7) Black Plague:

The Black Plague is highlighted in history as one of the deadliest pandemics to have ever happened in the world. It not only caused an increase in mortality rates but it left a profound impact on the economy and society. It first started in the Hubei province of China in 1334, claiming the lives of many. 

In 1348, the plague also spread in Europe through the silk routes, which is said to be the major route or source of trading. It mostly killed approximately 66% of the total population. It opened opportunities for dealing with the socio-economic crisis which led to the emergence of capitalism and many other social reforms.

 

6) Storming of Bastille:

The Bastille was a fortress and a prison in France that had the embodiment of brutality and oppression since the ancient times. Its storming and transformation into the new liberation marked the beginning of the French Revolt. Many prisoners were freed from this ancient system which reshaped the development of modern democracy and ideology. New rules and new laws were made to be implemented. This mainly focused on giving the people of France their freedom, rights and equal rights.

5) Vaccine for Smallpox:

Smallpox was another deadly pandemic and contagious disease that claimed half of the population of the world. According to history, there had been high mortality rates of the people including children and women. While many other people and survivors were left severely disfigured. In 1446, the invention of the Printing press was a groundbreaking idea that enabled the printing of books and magazines. This invention was a remarkable turnover for advancements in the fields of art, literature, religion and music. Before this invention, knowledge was restricted to wealthy families only. There was no creativity and the lack of imagination was limited and slow. With the advent of the printing press, many people started accessing knowledge and contributed to strong ideas and discoveries. The influence of printing press was so powerful that people started educating themselves with the new ideas and subject, allowing the accessibility of education and literacy for all.

In 1517, a groundbreaking reformation was formed or written by Martin Luther which sparked a revolution attracting Luther’s ideas. The name of this reformation was “Ninety-Five Theses” based on the power and efficacy of indulgence. This doctrine challenged the Catholic church’s authority. Luther’s theses and his divine messages were widespread across Germany, which caused a split of Europe based on Catholicism and the fostering of political liberty with the promotion of democratic ideas.

2) Berlin Conference:

The Berlin Conference held in 1884 by Otto von Bismarck was marked as the most crucial moment in African history. The European superpowers gathered and divided the African continent among themselves. Despite the existence of Africa and its cultural identity, the leaders separated the ethnic groups and exploited the rich resources of Africa.
