Development started in 2011 and was finished on December 23, 2015. The development was gone before by the destruction of the notable 495-room Drake Hotel and neighboring, common nineteenth-century New York townhouses.

Worked in 1926, the Drake was bought for $440 million out of 2006 (equal to $540 million in 2018 by engineer Harry Macklowe and destroyed the following year. Its impression ended up one of New York’s most valuable development sites because of its area between East 56th and 57th Streets on the west side of Park Avenue.
